Spectrasonic Omnisphere 2 Review
This is not a complete description of all Omnisphere can do. If you want a complete review you better head over to the Sound on Sound website and make sure you read the manual! This is also just a very personal opinion on Omnisphere and the reasons why, for me, it's a great product.
I originally picked this one up to do strings and pads, as it excels in that. But once I began diving more under the hood, it is an extremely deep synth. The sound sources are fantastic, If I can envision a certain sound, I can more than likely find it in omnisphere. The amount of modulation and routings you can do in it gives even more possibilities. I feel like I learn something new each time I open it.
If you haven't used Spectrasonics Omnisphere before, you should definitely first read our in-depth review of Omnisphere v1.5 to learn about the core features and operation of the soft synth, since the main product is essentially the same.
When you open up Omnisphere 2.1, the library appears on the left side of the window (see the screen shot at the start of this review). This is a one-column affair, with a directory, search field, the list of sounds, and a few helpful buttons at the bottom (sort, navigate up/down, preview).
Share is the more casual of the two options and is very easy to use: After you've created a sound that you want to share with the world, open the browser and locate the sound. SHIFT + Click it to select it, then click the Share button at the top of the browser window. You will be prompted to enter a location to share your patch to. We recommend creating a folder to store all of your shared sounds. Click through the prompts that appear, and you will end up with a .omnisphere file that is ready to share with the world.
This library contains over 7500 factory presets for Omnisphere 2 that can be loaded and browsed directly using the Komplete Kontrol / Maschine software and hardware. All presets have been saved as NKS files which contains the Omnisphere preset information, tagging information and mapped controls. Sound previews are now also available for your library so you can hear what a preset sounds like before loading the instrument. Additionally, a Komplete Kontrol database file and plug-in artwork is also included to create entries in your User Library.
v2.5.2 (19 April 2019)- Re-rendered sound previews to address glitch issue at end of file and also reduce size of library.- Arp/Sequence previews now 2 bars long- Cleaned up and improved some tagging across libraries.- Some library paths have changed to group some plugins by developer in the user folder.
- Cleaned up some additional tagging over 3rd party libraries- Added splash image for loaded instrument on Maschine MK2/Studio and Komplete MK3- Removed paintshop file from image folder- Generated new sound previews for Bass (higher note), Guitar (acoustic guitars strum) and Drums now play several hits- Updated documentation 350c69d7ab
